Between 2019 and 2020, there were more than 400 reported cases of police officers who faced verbal abuse or physical hurt while carrying out their duties. These include incidents in which officers were challenged by disorderly members of the public. Minister of State for Home Affairs Desmond Tan gave this update in reply to Parliamentary questions on Tuesday (Aug 3). He said additional resources may be sent to support the on-scene officers to arrest the criminals, maintain peace and protect lives. Officers are trained to handle unpredictable threats, including face-to-face conflicts.
