Edward Chia on moving towards a low-carbon society

08:02 Min

Singapore should not allow the transition towards a greener economy to be a source of division in society, said MP Edward Chia. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Jan 12), he said the crucial challenge is to provide industries and Singaporean workers with the tools, resources and skills to capitalise on the confluence of various elements in the green journey. Singapore needs to strengthen the nexus between digital and more traditional engineering skill sets, scale private-sector partnerships and align new skills and purposeful jobs with the expertise needed to go green. He said these measures will enable businesses to adopt the "triple bottom line" of People, Planet and Profit. He expressed confidence that Singapore can make going green a "sooner" and more viable option for businesses and create new and purposeful jobs for Singaporeans.
