Edward Chia on Significant Infrastructure Government Loan Bill

Investment in public infrastructure will benefit Singaporeans but the proposed Significant Infrastructure Government Loan Act will have ripple effects across generations, said MP Edward Chia in Parliament on Monday (May 10). He raised several concerns, including whether the S$90 billion borrowing limit - about 20% of today’s annual GDP - takes into account future growth trends; how the minimum qualifying cost of S$4 billion per project might be adjusted in future; and what measures are in place to prevent future generations from shouldering the higher maintenance costs of ageing assets.
