Koh Poh Koon on ramping up supply of local nurses

Singapore's local supply of nurses has grown, due to efforts to increase the intake in Institutes of Higher Learning, said Senior Minister of State for Health Koh Poh Koon. In 2020, there were around 1,400 new registrations from locals, compared with about 1,200 in 2019. Replying to Parliamentary questions on Tuesday (Jul 27), Dr Koh said the Government will continue to make the profession more attractive. He also said the Health Ministry is closely monitoring the impact of the Philippines' suspension of permits for nurses and urged healthcare employers to diversify their recruitment sources.
