Leon Perera on Mental Capacity (Amendment) Bill

Require donees under a Lasting Power of Attorney to notify the Public Guardian before making major decisions on behalf of their donors, which would impact the donors’ living arrangements or finances - this was suggested by MP Leon Perera in Parliament on Monday (Jul 5). He said this might make donees take their responsibilities more seriously and prevent abuse. He also asked if the Government would consider complementing the substitutive decision-making model with a supported decision-making option in future, where donors retain decision-making capacity with the help of trusted advisers.
