Louis Chua on support measures for Phases 2 and 3 (Heightened Alert)

Multinational corporations are paying a “disproportionately lower share” of corporate income tax, said MP Louis Chua in Parliament on Tuesday (Jul 27). He asked if the incidence of taxation could be shifted towards MNCs, away from local SMEs that need more support amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr Chua also noted that wage support has been differentiated based on sectors that are more badly affected. However, he felt it would be more effective to direct greater assistance to SMEs, which would make up a bigger proportion of jobs saved.
