Ministerial statement: Chan Chun Sing on River Valley High School incident

The 16-year-old boy accused of murdering a younger boy at River Valley High School was spotted by other students holding an axe outside a toilet, and he asked them to call the police. Education Minister Chan Chun Sing shared details of the incident in Parliament on Tuesday (Jul 27). To strengthen support networks in schools, he said teachers will get enhanced training in mental health literacy and more teacher-counsellors will be deployed. Common Last Topics will be dropped from this year's GCE exams and all schools will cut the scope of year-end exams to ease student stress.
