The media showed sensitivity and restraint in the way they reported the River Valley High School incident. When the incident happened, they were not given access to the school compound and were restricted to the public areas outside the school. The media's understanding was sought not to press students or staff for interviews or take photographs or videos of them in a way that could identify them, and to give the school the space to recover. Parliamentary Secretary for Communications and Information Rahayu Mahzam said this in reply to an MP's question in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 3).
