S Iswaran on higher registrations and adoption of electric vehicles

More motorists are making the switch to electric vehicles (EVs). Such vehicles made up 1.3 per cent of new cars, taxis and buses registered between January and June this year, higher than the 0.3 per cent for last year. Transport Minister S Iswaran, who gave this update in reply to Parliamentary questions on Tuesday (Jul 27), said two schemes launched this year helped push the adoption of EVs. One of them narrows the upfront cost between electric cars and those with internal combustion engines. He expects more to make the switch with lower battery costs and more EV models available.
