Shahira Abdullah on empowering women

More can be done to encourage and enable the success of young Malay-Muslim women, said NMP Shahira Abdullah in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 3). She suggested mentoring of women by women, which could be organised through community self-help groups, as well as showcasing strong Malay-Muslim women who already embody success in various fields, ranging from academics to sports to activism. Dr Shahira also called for a whole-of-society mindset shift on shared responsibilities of care between women and men, starting at home where gender expectations are formed.
