Shahira Abdullah on Police Force (Amendment) Bill

Allowing police officers to forcibly enter premises to protect people’s lives, safety or health is important, especially in cases of domestic violence where a person may be in imminent danger, said NMP Shahira Abdullah in Parliament on Monday (Aug 2). At the same time, it can be hard to tell if any crime is actually being committed in such incidents. She called for caution and clear guidelines, and asked what property owners can do if they suffer damage when forced entry turns out to be unwarranted. She also spoke of the risks involved with forced entry in cases of attempted suicide.
