Sharael Taha on Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill

With proposed higher penalties for importing or selling unapproved motorcycle helmets, MP Sharael Taha raised concerns about the costs of adhering to local safety standards. He said expensive testing and Singapore’s small market mean high prices that might deter riders from getting good helmets. In Parliament on Tuesday (May 11), he suggested allowing other internationally accepted safety standards, letting tests be done per model instead of per batch, or making testing free or highly subsidised.
