Singapore Zoo welcomes baby orangutan born via artificial insemination
The Singapore Zoo has welcomed baby orangutan Ayaan - the first in Singapore to be born via artificial insemination and delivered by Caesarean section. The newborn Sumatran orangutan is also believed to be part of the first documented case where both mother and baby survived placenta praevia, a dangerous pregnancy complication. Wildlife experts hope the breakthrough will help improve care and breeding efforts for the critically endangered species. Natalie Ong reports.
