Sylvia Lim on Police Force (Amendment) Bill

MP Sylvia Lim voiced concern about delegating top-level police leadership powers to civilian officers, as provided for under a new Bill. She asked what scope is envisaged and whether those individuals would have the necessary experience and credibility. In Parliament on Monday (Aug 2), Ms Lim also asked why there is a need now to expand the powers of Commercial Affairs Officers and Special Constabulary. On making it an offence for pedestrians to cross police roadblocks, she asked what sort of pedestrians this might cover, apart from drivers who try to abandon their cars and escape on foot.
