There is no statutory requirement for employers to provide health insurance for their employees. Where such benefits are contractual, any changes should be agreed by both parties. Employers are also recommended to adopt the Portable Medical Benefits Scheme. Manpower Minister Tan See Leng said this in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 3) in response to an MP’s question on workers with employer-provided medical insurance who are no longer covered for conditions when there is a change in insurer.
