Temasek Shophouse - Honouring the Past, Inspiring the Future
Four historic Orchard Road shophouses are transformed into one social impact hub, as a team tackles the challenge of preserving the past while building for the future.
Temasek Shophouse
Along Orchard Road, four historic shophouses are about to begin a new life. Built across different eras and for different purposes, they are being brought together to form an expanded Temasek Shophouse — a hub for social impact. But transforming century-old buildings comes with unexpected challenges. Architects, conservation specialists and engineers must decide what to preserve, find ways to connect four very different structures, and make them more sustainable without erasing their character. As hidden features are uncovered and old materials find new uses, the team races to turn an ambitious vision into reality — and prove that heritage, sustainability and new possibilities can coexist.
