Adjournment motion on ensuring equitable outcomes in housing redevelopment

32:29 Min

The Government is studying variations of shorter-term ownership options for older homeowners affected by Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS) exercises, said National Development Minister Desmond Lee. It has started offering such options in a current exercise in Ang Mo Kio, which caused concerns among some of the residents involved. Mr Lee said the new rehousing options take into account challenges faced by older residents living in older flats, as well as the fact that flats in future SERS exercises are also likely to be older, with shorter remaining terms. He added that shorter lease options are an extension of approaches taken in recent years to meet seniors’ needs, such as 2-room Flexi flats and the Lease Buyback Scheme. The minister was responding to Ang Mo Kio GRC MP Nadia Ahmad Samdin, who had raised an adjournment motion on ensuring equitable outcomes in housing redevelopment in Parliament on Monday (Jul 4).
