Gan Siow Huang on school counsellors
All schools have one or two trained school counsellors, depending on the needs of each school - with a current total of about 410. To supplement their short-term needs, schools can also engage flexi-adjunct school counsellors and there are currently about 120 of these. The Ministry of Education has also trained more than 700 teacher counsellors - this works out to about two or three per school - and the aim is to increase this number to more than 1,000 over the next few years. Minister of State for Education Gan Siow Huang said this in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 29) in answer to an MP’s question.
