Tan See Leng on ASEAN Power Grid and regional electricity sustainability
The Government has no plans at this point to invest directly in cross-border infrastructure to ensure electricity sustainability in Southeast Asia. Its focus is to work with regional partners to provide the framework, regulations and ecosystem to enable commercial players to build the infrastructure. Singapore will continue to work closely with those partners and this year’s ASEAN Chair Indonesia to realise the ASEAN Power Grid. It has tied up with various countries on pathfinder projects and is also collaborating with the United States on a feasibility study on regional energy connectivity to support the development of the grid. Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 22) in reply to an MP’s questions.
