Consider delivering support for SMEs as packages tailored to specific industries instead of in the current modular format, suggested MP Yip Hon Weng in Parliament on Tuesday (Jul 27). He said the sheer “wealth of resources” can be overwhelming and needs to be streamlined and simplified. Mr Yip also said Government agencies should be more flexible and sensitive when imposing rent and fee increases, pointing to a recent hike in hawker stall rent that was “ill-timed”. In the same vein, he asked if the impending GST hike could be pushed back, given the continuing impact of COVID-19.
