SINGAPORE: A Singaporean man appeared in a Spanish court on Friday (Apr 19), three days after he was arrested in connection with the death of a Singaporean woman.

Ms Audrey Fang, 39, was found dead with 30 stab wounds near a parking area for lorries in the town of Abanilla on Apr 10, Spanish media reports said.

The 43-year-old suspect, who was not named, arrived at a court in the southeastern city of Cieza at around 9.20am local time, according to La Verdad de Murcia, a Spanish news outlet.

Ms Fang's family and their lawyer are also reportedly in Cieza and have identified her body. The judge agreed to their lawyer's request for the accused to be remanded in custody while investigations continue.

The suspect was not offered bail, news outlet La Opinion de Murcia reported.

Ms Fang arrived in Spain on Apr 4 for a solo trip and was due to return to Singapore on Apr 12.

She reportedly went missing after leaving her hotel room on Apr 9 at around 8.45pm. Her belongings were left in the luxury hotel in Javea, a town on Spain’s eastern coast.

Her body was found around 150km away the next day, but was only identified on Apr 17.

According to news outlet El Espanol, Ms Fang’s body was discovered by the chief inspector of the local police division when he was on his way to breakfast.

A preliminary autopsy report determined that knife wounds and head trauma were the cause of Ms Fang's death, La Verdad de Murcia reported.

Forensic experts have collected the necessary samples and her body could be released for repatriation in the next few hours if the court authorises it.

Camera footage showed Ms Fang being picked up from her hotel in a car driven by the accused, La Opinion de Murcia reported on Friday.

The Civil Guard, a national police force in Spain, reportedly determined the model of the vehicle and investigations revealed that the vehicle had been seen in Alicante, Javea and Abanilla.

The suspect was arrested in Alicante. Ms Fang's hotel was in Javea and her body was found in Salado Alto, which is near Abanilla.
