More autumn views await us as we resume our journey on local railway lines. In Akita, we start our morning by soaking in the refreshing open-air bath of Yukisawa Onsen Seifuso. Then we head to the Odate Kosaka Tetsudo Rail Bike Shop near the hotel.
Here, we find several types of rail bikes - converted from bicycles - such as a four-seater one and an electric one. The rail bikes run on a disused railroad track which is now used as a rail trail. It is surrounded by autumn leaves, so we get to take in the autumn sights while riding on the track. After this, we take the JR Hanawa Line - which goes to Iwate Prefecture - from Odate Station. We alight at Kazuno Hanawa, which is the birthplace of Kiritanpo. We go to a roadside station Kazuno, Antler and try making some Kiritanpo. Its main ingredient is newly-harvested rice of Akitakomachi. We end our trip on the Hanawa Line by travelling from Kazuno Hanawa to Morioka, a popular spot to view autumn leaves. We continue our local bus journey around Kii Peninsula and our goal is to reach Toba in Mie Prefecture at the end of the fourth day. On the second day, from Fujinami, we take a bus to Kanayaguchi and then transfer to the last bus going to Kawaharago in Miyama. We reach Kawaharago after half an hour at 4.50pm.

This week, we embark on a four-day local bus journey around Kii Peninsula, the biggest peninsula in Japan. We will start off from Sakai in Osaka and our goal is to reach Toba in Mie Prefecture. We aim to head in the direction of Wakayama Prefecture first.

Two teams continue their Sugoroku trip around Gunma in autumn. On the second day, the men’s team goes to a theme park in Deguchi Shotenmae, Akagi Kronenberg, which resembles a city in Germany. Here they have to try some freshly-harvested honey.

Two teams embark on a Sugoroku trip around Gunma in autumn this week. The team members will roll a dice, which will determine their next destination. At each place, they have to choose between two missions and complete them in order to proceed to the next spot. The losing team will have to pay for the other team’s expenses.

We resume our five-day winter trip across the Northern Kanto area on a limited budget of 50,000 yen per person. On the third day, from Tobu Nikko Station, we walk to the World Heritage Site of Nikko Toshogu. Along the way, we try some spring water from Mt. Nantaisan. We also get to see another World Heritage Site, the vermillion-lacquered Shinkyo Bridge of Nikko Futarasan Shrine.
