Join us this week as we travel by local buses from Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture to Rokkosaki at the northernmost tip of Noto Peninsula. Board a local bus at Nagoya Station and travel for 20 minutes to the city hall. The city bus stop of Toyoyama Town is located near the city hall. If you have time to spare before taking your next bus, drop by one of the coffee shops nearby to have breakfast.
After this, take a bus to Hokubu Shijo Higashi and transfer buses to go to Komaki. Since there are no railways in Toyoyama Town, many people use the community bus. So don’t be too surprised if you see passengers actually sitting on cushions on the floor when the bus seats are all occupied! Alight at Komaki City Hall and take another bus to Komaki Station. There are several bus stops at the back of the station. The next destination is Gifu, towards the north of Komaki. However, there are no direct buses going to Gifu from Komaki. But fret not, take a bus to Iwakura Station first. At the station, use the underpass to reach the west gate and then take a local bus to Owari Ichinomiya. Highway buses are a popular mode of transport in Japan. So this week, we will travel 2,000km by highway buses from Kagoshima prefecture in Kyushu to Aomori. The challenge is to reach the goal in six days while making stopovers at 20 cities along the way.

This week, two teams comprising two men and two women will embark on a sugoroku trip around Mt. Fuji. They will travel by bus and train and attempt to reach the goal of Yamanaka Lake. At each stop, the teams have to complete one of two missions to move ahead to the next place. The losing team will have to pay for the expenses incurred by the winning team, on top of their own costs!

We continue our scenic train trips in autumn this week. After visiting Kaiko-en in Komoro, travel for 30 minutes to your inn for the night. Hishino Onsen, Tokiwa-kan was founded 100 years ago and is located near Mt. Asama. It exudes a relaxing ambience with its wooden interior and has Japanese-cum-Western-style rooms.

Spectacular autumn views await us as we embark on scenic train trips this week. Our first train journey takes us to Shizuoka. We begin by travelling on the Tenryu Hamanako and Oigawa lines to Shinjohara Station, which is near Lake Hamana. Drop by the Yamayoshi eel shop at the station, opened by a Western-trained chef 23 years ago. It sells delicious hot and fresh eel bento.
