While wrinkles are a tell-tale sign of age, pigmentation and a blotchy, uneven skin tone can make you look older than you really are. In fact, some research suggests that an uneven, dull complexion can add years to your real age more so than fine lines.

Unhealthy lifestyle habits, cumulative sun damage and the skin’s natural ageing process can affect your skin health and its luminosity.  A healthier, more youthful complexion lies just beneath your skin’s surface, and the latest Depigmentation Peel System from DRx Medical Aesthetic Clinic aims to help individuals unveil clearer, brighter and healthier skin.

Here, Dr Tan Hui Yun of DRx Medical Aesthetic Clinic shares more about this chemical peel treatment, and how it can be tailored to suit different skin conditions.

What is the Depigmentation Peel System?

It is a depigmentation and anti-aging chemical peel treatment. Carried out by DRx doctors, the peel application, duration and frequency are tailored according to every individual’s skin condition to ensure maximum results.

As part of a comprehensive programme, patients will be given a post-peel home care kit, which serves to minimise post-treatment discomfort and amplify the results of the peel.

What is in the post-peel home care kit?

The post-peel home care kit consists of a post-peel lightener that helps to lighten pigmentation and a recovery cream with anti-inflammatory, moisturising, soothing, regenerative and whitening properties. Patients have to use the post-peel lightener and recovery cream for a minimum of three months. A usage period of six months is recommended.

How is DRx’s Depigmentation Peel System different from other chemical peels?

DRx’s peel treatment consists of a powerful proprietary blend of antioxidants and acids, such as lactic, salicylic, kojic and phytic acid, which curb the inflammatory response responsible for stimulating melanin production. In addition, it kickstarts the metabolism cycle in skin cells, thus inducing collagen production while reducing UV and free radical damage.

The treatment uses a bio-engineering technique that ensures that ingredients penetrate in a uniform manner. This allows for a more controlled and even exfoliative process, with less drying and irritative effects typical of other chemical peels.

The treatment is accompanied by a specialised post-peel regime, which provides intense hydration and nourishment as well as prevents side effects such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Which target areas are suitable?

The treatment can be used on the face or any body area exposed to damage from ultraviolet rays.

Who is a suitable candidate for the treatment?

Anyone with sun-damaged and/or ageing skin can benefit from this programme. It can also help improve acne marks but it is not suitable for atrophic or hypertrophic scars.

Individuals with sensitive skin will need to undergo a consultation with DRx doctors who will assess their suitability for this treatment.

What kind of results can I expect?

You will notice clearer and brighter skin, with significant lightening of superficial pigmentation, such as freckles and age spots. A week or so after the post-treatment peeling ends, you should see improvements in your skin texture, and a reduction in pores and fine lines.
