Why aren’t all tables at East Coast Lagoon Food Village sheltered after renovation?

Some unsheltered tables at East Coast Lagoon Food Village, a hawker centre at East Coast Park, on April 8, 2021.

I was with my family at the East Coast Lagoon Food Village in East Coast Park on a rainy evening last Saturday (April 3).

Like many families, we had to walk around while waiting for an available table.

We were surprised that not all the tables were covered by some form of shelter. It was a pity that no one could use those tables exposed to the rain.

Based on my observations, I reckon about 10 per cent of the tables were not sheltered.

We stood around for about 40 minutes before we found a vacant table.

One would assume that after its recent renovation, which shut the hawker centre from November last year to February, all the tables would be sheltered from the elements, including the glare and heat from the sun.

This was, however, not the case. Two stallholders told me that their business was affected when park visitors chose not to wait for sheltered tables.

Could the authorities follow up with further improvements?
