In ‘Culture Club’, Melanie Oliveiro speaks with Singaporean author, Jemimah Wei, who discusses her debut novel, “The Original Daughter”, now available around the world. “The Original Daughter”, is a coming-of-age story set in Bedok about an adopted ‘sister’, Arin, who later becomes a Hollywood starlet and Gen, the ‘original daughter’, who ekes out a living as a gig worker in Singapore. Their strong relationship gradually sours into one of dysfunction and betrayal. Wei will talk about why the novel was more than 10 years in the making and how themes like trauma and female rage occur throughout the book.
