Daily Cuts - US President Joe Biden rallies support in his rare address

US President Joe Biden has urged Americans to back the billions of dollars in military aid that he plans to ask congress to approve for Israel and Ukraine. Speaking from the Oval Office, he framed the conflicts as part of a bigger struggle to shape the world order, and to protect citizens at home. Mr Biden also reiterated his full support for Israel. Gerald M. Daily Cuts - Women are flocking to the cinemas in China

In China, it’s been a record-breaking few months for movie theatres as young women flocked to see home-grown films. The number is staggering - More than 570 million people flocked to cinemas in the past four months. Box office receipts totaled $3.2 billion between June and September. This is the highest amount for that period in history. For the top five movies, 61% of the viewers were women, the highest percentage on record. Professor Ying Zhu is from the Academy of Film at Hong Kong Baptist University. She’s also author of the book, ‘Hollywood in China Behind the Scenes of the World’s Largest Movie Market’. She tells Arnold & Andrea why women are rushing to the cinemas.

Daily Cuts - 10 years of BRI but was it a success?

The third Belt and Road Forum has come to a close. Over 130 countries were represented at the two-day summit in the capital Beijing. In his speech, President Xi Jinping promised foreign companies more access to the Chinese market. He also pledged more than $100 billion in new financing for other developing economies. Prof Shahar Hameiri from the School of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Queensland tells Arnold & Andrea if the BRI has been a success.

Daily Cuts - Young people want more interaction with lawmakers

Findings from TODAY Youth Survey shows 75 per cent of young people agree they should actively participate in civic discourse. 58 per cent believe their views are considered by the Government during policymaking, while 54 per cent feel that the Government is receptive to differing or opposing views about its policies. Eugene Tan is Associate Professor of Law at SMU. He tells Arnold & Andrea what he thinks of the numbers.
