The new portrait of King Charles III – the first since his coronation – was unveiled last week to mixed reaction. The painting by British artist Jonathan Yeo, which depicts the sovereign doused in red paint, has drawn both gasps of surprise and displeasure. But there could perhaps lie a deeper message behind the bold choice.
