Daily Cuts - Philippines & Japan 2+2 meeting
The Philippines and Japan will hold a 2+2 foreign and defence ministerial meeting in Manila to discuss defence and security issues in the region. The meeting comes as the Philippines and Japan are negotiating a reciprocal access agreement (RAA) that would deepen defence cooperation between two key allies of the United States in Asia. Asia First's Andrea Heng and Hairianto Diman examine how the current geopolitical conditions will shape these talks and the potential outcomes that may emerge. They speak with Lucio Blanco Pitlo III, foreign policy and security analyst; President, Philippine Association for Chinese Studies; and Research Fellow, Asia-Pacific Pathways to Progress Foundation.
