ByteDance’s TikTok faces a deadline of Jan 19 to find a US buyer in order to continue operating in the country, and the Supreme Court has signalled it is unlikely to oppose the law imposing that condition. Bloomberg News earlier reported that Chinese officials were considering selling the company’s US operations to Mr Elon Musk’s social media platform X. But TikTok labelled the report as “pure fiction”. Will TikTok survive the ban? We find out.

South Korean authorities arrested impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol on Wednesday (Jan 15) over insurrection accusations related to his martial law declaration.
