Authorities have confirmed that the monitor lizard that wandered into an HDB flat in Punggol is not native to Singapore, with a probe underway. Despite a strict ban, Singapore has a list of allowable exotic animals for those looking to adopt an alternative pet.  Asia's First Andrea Heng and Hairianto Diman get a herpetologist to give us a 101 rundown of such non-native animals finding their way here and the challenges in curbing the illicit trade involving exotic pets in Singapore. They also ask one such pet owner, Randal, a former reptile keeper what’s involved in adopting and caring for these creatures and get his thoughts on the illicit exotic pet trade here.
