Daily Cuts - What's on at Sneakrcon

Melanie Oliveiro speaks with Singapore streetwear designer Mark Ong aka Mr Sabotage (SBTG) who’ll talk about his involvement at this year’s Sneaker Con SEA held at Resorts World Sentosa. Sneaker Con SEA  2024 is a celebration of sneaker and streetwear culture with on-stage panel discussions, a customised lineup of over 200 global and local iconic brands, and a gathering of 150+ traders and passionate sneaker collectors from around the globe. Ong will talk about how he will design exclusive limited-edition Kintsugi Air Jordan 1 highs, crafted from vintage scarves and bandanas, embodying the artistry of Kintsugi, which is the Japanese process of repairing ceramics traditionally with lacquer and gold. Ong will also talk about how he is collaborating with RWS in designing 22 pairs of limited-edition sneakers for RWS as a commemoration of their partnership. RWS and SBTG will auction off two pairs of the limited-edition sneakers and donate all proceeds to the students from Temasek Polytechnic (Mark Ong’s alma mater).

Melanie Oliveiro speaks with photographer and visual artist Tan Ngiap Heng about his exhibition Drama Mama co-presented with theatre company Wild Rice.  Located along the underground pedestrian walkway linking Funan to The Adelphi, Drama Mama is a series of over eighty black & white portraits of Singaporean artists. Tan will talk about how he curated this exhibition, and what it was like photographing household names like actor/singer Lim Yu-Beng, pioneering Indian classical dance doyenne Santha Bhaskar and actress Siti Khalijah.

Daily Cuts - JISR Film Festival

Melanie Oliveiro finds out where in Singapore we can go to watch films made by moviemakers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and in the process learning more about modern Arabian culture - should we consider traveling to the GCC. The JISR Film Festival is an inaugural cultural festival that’s debuting in Singapore, featuring the works of established and emerging filmmakers. Cinemagoers will access a curated selection of 17 films representing the diverse cinematic landscape of the GCC, along the themes of sustainability, animation, sports and female empowerment.

Daily Cuts - Good Threads

Melanie Oliveiro finds out more about a new local brand Good Threads, a capsule collection of 200 multi-functional apparel designed for conscious, eco-friendly urban living. Good Threads was recently launched by Mandai Wildlife Group. The collection is produced in collaboration with various designers and companies like Plastify, a Singapore-born startup that has made recycling plastic waste its business.
