Melanie Oliveiro speaks with Singapore streetwear designer Mark Ong aka Mr Sabotage (SBTG) who’ll talk about his involvement at this year’s Sneaker Con SEA held at Resorts World Sentosa. Sneaker Con SEA  2024 is a celebration of sneaker and streetwear culture with on-stage panel discussions, a customised lineup of over 200 global and local iconic brands, and a gathering of 150+ traders and passionate sneaker collectors from around the globe. Ong will talk about how he will design exclusive limited-edition Kintsugi Air Jordan 1 highs, crafted from vintage scarves and bandanas, embodying the artistry of Kintsugi, which is the Japanese process of repairing ceramics traditionally with lacquer and gold. Ong will also talk about how he is collaborating with RWS in designing 22 pairs of limited-edition sneakers for RWS as a commemoration of their partnership. RWS and SBTG will auction off two pairs of the limited-edition sneakers and donate all proceeds to the students from Temasek Polytechnic (Mark Ong’s alma mater).

Daily Cuts - Kenneth Bok - Decentralising Finance

Melanie Oliveiro speaks with Kenneth Bok - consultant, investor, and author of 'Decentralizing Finance: How DeFi, Digital Assets and Distributed Ledger Technology Are Transforming Finance’. Bok will explain why his general approach and message generally aligns with the Monetary Association of Singapore's policy on cryptocurrencies - that they are risky and generally not suitable for retail investors. That said, he’ll also talk about stablecoins and how three of them are now regulated by the MAS, and how they can further financial inclusion. Bok will also discuss how his book explores the current state of decentralised finance (DeFi).

The events are part of publisher Penguin SEA launching their first-ever brand campaign – Fiction Frenzy – which brings together a diverse list of twelve fiction titles across genres for readers in the South East Asian region. Daily Cuts - The Balkans by Frederick CH Lim

Melanie Oliveiro speaks with journalist-turned-author and frequent traveler Frederick CH Lim. Lim will talk about his journeys to the Balkans: Croatia, Bosnia-Herzogovina, and Slovenia. Lim will describe two Croatian towns Split and Dubrovnik and why Dubrovnik is more for romantic trips and beach holidays. He’ll also talk about his trip to Croatia’s Krka National Park and – on another occasion – where he went truffle hunting. Lim will also recall the time he explored Slovenia’s Postojna Caves which has a cave system that’s more than 20 km long.
