From Aug 2 to 4, more than 1,000 mattresses, bed frames and sofas will be on sale at The Grassroots’ Club.

As Singapore celebrates 59 years of nationhood this month, there is another reason to rejoice: Four Star is holding a National Day clearance sale, featuring over 1,000 heavily discounted items. Founded in 1968, Four Star is an established mattress brand in Singapore known for its sleep solutions.

Customers can look forward to bed frames, storage beds and pull-out beds starting at just S$199, while prices for solid wood tabletop dining sets begin at S$599. A sliding door wardrobe is priced from S$499, while sofas start at S$299. Shoppers can take their pick from a large variety of sofa designs, including plush recliners and luxurious L-shaped sofas. Customisation is also available, so customers can tailor the sofas to fit their needs.

Shoppers can look forward to big discounts, with single mattresses starting at S$199 and king-sized mattresses going from S$499.

For those seeking a mattress, the sale offers significant discounts – single mattresses start at S$199 while king-sized mattresses are priced from S$499.

“Four Star offers a wide range of high-quality mattresses to suit varying needs and preferences,” said Dr Ling Huat Sing, CEO at Four Star. “Our mattress technology undergoes extensive research, and each mattress is backed by a warranty of up to 15 years.”

According to Dr Ling, choosing the right mattress involves considering factors such as your sleeping position, material preference and firmness level. “Side sleepers benefit from a mattress that contours to the curves of their body, especially around the hips and shoulders. I recommend a medium to medium-soft mattress or a memory foam mattress with softer layers that allow for slight sinking while still supporting the spine,” he said. “Back sleepers need a mattress that supports the natural curvature of the spine, so a medium to medium-firm mattress is a better choice.”

Here, he shares more on the different types of mattresses available at the sale.

FOR OPTIMAL BACK SUPPORT: FOUR STAR CHIRO+

As one of the corporate members of the World Federation of Chiropractic, Four Star has developed the Chiro+ series to address sleep problems caused by uncomfortable sleeping surfaces and improper mattress pressure distribution. Designed for orthopaedic posture support, Chiro+ mattresses are exceptionally firm.

The Chiro+ mattress series from Four Star is designed for orthopaedic posture support.

“The firmness and durability of this mattress provide optimal support for the spine,” said Dr Ling. “This helps relieve minor back pain, shoulder pain, discomfort and stiffness while enhancing side support with high-density foam encasement.”

Additionally, the Chiro+ series is made from selected plant-based ingredients, reducing its environmental impact.

TO STAY COOL THROUGH THE NIGHT: FOUR STAR DETENSE ARCTICSILK CU+

In a tropical climate like Singapore, mattresses can easily become hot, disrupting sleep and reducing sleep quality. For individuals who often feel hot during the night, Dr Ling recommends the Detense Arcticsilk CU+ series, which incorporates advanced Japanese technology to ensure a cool night of sleep.

“This mattress has silk-feel eco fibres for maximum breathability and durability,” he shared. “It also incorporates Airflex material with open-cell structures, which improves air circulation and helps to distribute heat away from the sleeper’s body.”

FOR THOSE PRONE TO ALLERGIES: FOUR STAR TENCEL

If you find yourself waking up with watery eyes or a runny nose, you might be experiencing an allergy attack. For individuals prone to allergies, choosing a mattress made from hypoallergenic materials is essential. Options like latex or memory foam are less likely to harbour allergens.

“Mattresses can become breeding grounds for dust mites, fungi and other microscopic allergens due to their natural humidity and warmth,” Dr Ling explained. “Even with regular sheet changes, allergens can accumulate over time unless the mattress is hypoallergenic.”

That is why he recommends the Four Star Tencel series. Tencel fibres are naturally hypoallergenic, reducing the risk of allergic reactions by preventing the buildup of common allergens like dust mites, pet dander and mould.

In addition, Tencel offers excellent moisture-wicking properties and high breathability, which help maintain a dry and well-ventilated sleeping environment.

Storage beds are a great option to keep rooms clutter-free, providing ample space to store items out of sight while maximising bedroom space.

No matter which mattress type you prefer, Dr Ling advises replacing your mattress every seven to 10 years. “Even the best mattress has a lifespan and needs replacement once it wears out,” he said. “An old mattress is less likely to provide the support needed for a good night’s sleep.”

The Four Star NDP Clearance Sale will take place from Aug 2 to 4 at the multi-function hall on Level 1 of The Grassroots' Club (190 Ang Mo Kio Ave 8, Singapore 568046), between 10am and 10pm daily. For more information, visit the Four Star website.
