LEARNING TO ACHIEVE ZERO WASTE
If you’ve ever crumpled up and tossed reams of foolscap while writing a composition for school —and felt bad about it afterwards — then you’ll appreciate the need for Zero Waste Singapore’s (ZWSG) campaign, Zero Waste School.
Established in 2015, Zero Waste School is a programme that aims to create a culture of significantly reducing waste within schools in Singapore, through activities and messaging centered on the mindful usage of resources, sustainable waste management practices and the need for recycling. It has reached out to more than 55,000 people and engaged over 220 companies through its campaigns and activities.

Your giving will fund resources that go towards the design and implementation of the Zero Waste School (above) pilot programme, as well as the conducting of research and collection of data that will help ZWSG to better understand how to include sustainable waste. ZWSG also hopes to develop and produce a holistic toolkit for schools’ use and to promote the training of stakeholders like teachers and students.

NEVER TOO OLD TO RIDE
When was the last time your Ah Ma/Nenek/Aatha (Grandma) got to experience Singapore’s stunning cityscapes with the wind in their hair and sunlight on their faces? Cycling Without Age Singapore is an initiative aimed at connecting Singapore’s seniors with our wider society, via two-seater, trishaw rides piloted by volunteers.
There are many elderly folk in Singaporean who are socially isolated and have difficulty walking or navigating the outside world due to poor eyesight. Cycling Without Age’s trishaw rides offer them the opportunity to reminisce and interact with their peers and the younger volunteers, all while experiencing the city’s sights at a leisurely pace. For seniors who dislike air-conditioning or spend their days cooped up at home, these tandem trishaw rides are literally a much-needed breath of fresh air.
Your giving will help Cycling Without Age achieve its mission of building bridges between generations, while ensuring that fewer seniors in Singapore suffer from isolation and loneliness.
SAVE A SINGAPORE SPECIAL
December is monsoon season, and while it’s been raining cats and dogs of late, animal charities like Save Our Street Dogs (SOSD) will tell you that it’s been raining puppies for them regularly for years – and caring for them all does not come cheap.
SOSD’s medical fundraiser for the last quarter of 2020 will go towards the care and medical treatment of street dogs rescued by volunteers of the non-profit organisation, who often venture into storm drains and forested areas in response to alerts from the public of stray dogs that are injured or in danger.

While the organisation does work with volunteer vets and clinics that offer discounted services, the bills still add up every month as more dogs come in, often with broken bones or treatable diseases. In addition, dogs that can be rehomed need to first undergo check-ups, while the longer-term residents of SOSD’s shelters at Sungei Tengah and Jurong Island need medical treatment as they age.
SOSD aims to enhance the welfare of Singapore’s street dogs – known as Singapore Specials – and eliminate cruelty to, and abandonment of, animals. Your gift will fund its efforts to ensure that its rescued dogs are safe, healthy and have full bellies.
