Clementi Central needs more amenities to serve growing population

There has been an increase in the supply of both private and public residential units in the western part of Singapore, especially in Clementi, Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang estates. Some are still under construction and some are due for completion by next year.
However, this increase in supply of homes does not seem to correspond with the increase in amenities such as malls and wet markets.
Using Clementi Central as an example, there is only one Clementi Mall, and other retailers in the area are found in shophouses, and there is one small wet market which was built more than 50 years ago. Along with the two NTUC supermarkets at Clementi Central, these are definitely not enough to serve the needs of existing and future residents.
People living at the fringes of Clementi also flock to the central area because they can run errands and find everything there for convenience and to save time.
Perhaps, the Urban Redevelopment Authority would like to address residents’ concerns, on whether there are plans, say, to demolish the old Clementi ITE College to make way for another mall or a more modernised wet market (akin to those in European countries) to prevent overcrowding at Clementi Central.
