Extend validity of annual travel insurance plans for free amid Covid-19 travel restrictions

I refer to Mr Ee Teck Siew’s letter, "Deferment of premium payments during Covid-19: Insurance firms must buck up" (April 20).

Besides life and health insurance, there is also the issue of travel insurance.

Many people who travel a few times a year for pleasure or business, or both, often sign up for an annual travel insurance policy.

But travel is off the cards for the foreseeable future because of travel restrictions during the Covid-19 outbreak.

People who do travel are likely not covered by existing policies because of the travel advisories that are in force. Therefore, I appeal to all insurance companies to show goodwill by extending the validity of existing policies by six months at no charge, in recognition of the near-blanket restrictions on overseas travel.

Alternatively, insurance companies could offer a discount of, say, 50 per cent on the premium when people renew their annual travel insurance policies.
