Hire seniors, make use of their can-do attitude
Our nation may not have much in natural resources but is blessed with good human resources, trained and governed by good goal-focused management systems.
Seniors are seasoned human resources whom an enterprising manager would know how to deploy and gain from to achieve win-win goals. Those who espy problems with employing seniors would mostly be biased about the outcome.
I have met seniors employed cheerfully in physical work at petrol stations, supermarkets, restaurants and in industry, and their work is done well. Managers should make the best use of what is available instead of fretting.
Many seniors have a can-do attitude. I am an engineer, aged 78. I am active, healthy and enjoy training a younger team towards continual improvements.
My activity is mostly knowledge-based, and not a physical strain; productivity increases are achieved through data collection, analyses, applying solutions and realising desired results. I enjoy my work with young employees, they are happy and the company benefits.
My pleasure comes from seeing the team progress — I will be proud of that. My monetary expectations are secondary to my constructive engagements, and I am glad that I contribute to our society.
