More security checks needed for cars, carparks at Changi Airport

I regularly take public buses to Changi Airport. Before each bus enters the basement bus-stops, it is boarded and checked by a uniformed officer.

I also drive to the airport. Cars that enter the covered carparks and that are parked right next to the airport terminals to drop off and pick up passengers are, however, not subjected to any physical checks.

Similarly, passengers can enter all terminals uninspected. If checks for cars and passengers entering the terminals are unnecessary, does this mean that the checks on public buses are contradictory or redundant?

Such lack of security checks appears not to be confined to the airport only. The writer to Voices on Tuesday (“Tender for school security services shows gaps in coverage”; Feb 2) points out to the loopholes in the security arrangements for our public schools.

We cannot allow such security lapses to exist, especially in the light of recent events in the region.
