Not like Manchurian Incident, but China must stop its muscle-flexing
I am not persuaded by the commentary “China should heed the lessons of Pearl Harbour” (Dec 8).
The Manchurian Incident was caused unwisely by the Japanese army in a foreign land, while China claims that the islands in the South China Sea belong to it historically, notwithstanding the Hague ruling in July.
What China must now do is to stop the muscle-flexing and display gentlemanly behaviour in the international community. It must learn to listen to the international rules and ethos.
Japan has been trying to contribute to peace and stability as a member of the international community since 1945, and especially since 1951, because it had made a grave mistake and inflicted unspeakable atrocities on the Asian people.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe knows this well, and his administration has been making similar efforts.
