NTUC Income supports health insurance task force’s proposals

Mr Francis Cheng suggested that NTUC Income lead by example by keeping healthcare costs down for its customers via low insurance premiums (“NTUC Income should take lead in keeping healthcare premiums low”; Oct 15).

As a social enterprise, Income’s primary objective is to ensure that Singaporeans have access to affordable essential insurance. We are mindful of our role in moderating prices; we do so by seeking to maximise the value of our policies. Our integrated Shield plans are among the most competitive, particularly so for plans that cater for A and B wards in restructured hospitals.

Mr Cheng is right to highlight that premiums are ultimately determined by healthcare costs, which in turn depend on costs from a wide range of healthcare providers.

This is why Income supports the industry-led Health Insurance Task Force’s recommendations for all stakeholders within Singapore’s healthcare ecosystem to collaborate closely to ensure that healthcare and medical coverage remains affordable and sustainable for all.
