Show was entertaining and also educational, beneficial to the elderly

Mediacorp should continue producing educational television shows like Happy Can Already, which concluded recently. I enjoyed watching this hilarious, informative series, which dealt with topics benefiting the elderly.

Through skits, the elderly could learn how to stay healthy, avoid scams, not withdraw their Central Provident Fund money for investments, et cetera. Most importantly, seniors could be imbued with a correct attitude towards living their twilight years.

They were exhorted to adopt lifelong learning and acquire new skills to keep their minds active. The mode of communication — via dialects such as Hokkien, Teochew and Cantonese — was a brilliant, effective and viable strategy.

This enabled the artistes to endear themselves to the audience. Indeed, several government policies can be better disseminated to the elderly using dialects. I would look forward to a sequel to Happy Can Already.
