Students should cherish Building My SG gift set from MOE
As a proud Singaporean, I am honoured to be able to witness Singapore’s year-long 50th birthday celebrations.
To celebrate SG50, the Ministry of Education (MOE) is giving out the Building My SG gift sets to students from the primary to tertiary levels.
These are Lego sets that allow the students to build landmarks such as Gardens by the Bay. The gift sets are creative and give students a sense of pride in their hometown (“All MOE students, teachers to get SG50 LEGO sets”; May 14).
Some students, however, are trying to sell these sets, which is inappropriate. We should cherish the SG50 set, because it is indeed memorable and worth keeping.
Parents whose children have received the set can play a part by sharing their special Singaporean experiences and educating their children on important values.
Personally, I will keep the SG50 set; it is a special gift for us to commemorate Singapore’s 50th birthday.
When I am older and perhaps start a family, I will be able to take out this set and tell my children of my experiences during this jubilee year. Thank you, MOE, for presenting us with a meaningful SG50 gift.
