Tighten rules on mask-wearing for those not doing strenuous exercise
I refer to Assistant Professor Benjamin Joshua Ong’s letter, “Clarify rules on mask-wearing for smokers and people on their phones” (July 15).
When I go for walks in the mornings, I have noticed that people regularly flout the rule requiring them to wear masks unless they are doing "strenuous exercise”.
Many people who are walking slowly, or doing very slow and light exercise, are not wearing masks.
When I asked one of them to wear a mask, she replied that she was exercising, so she need not wear a mask.
I am afraid that more people will start not to wear masks when they see more and more people not wearing them.
Can the rules be made stricter and strenuous exercise be defined more clearly?
