All hospitals in Singapore have standard visiting hours for patients in their general wards.

At Singapore General Hospital (SGH) though, the visiting hours are from noon to 2pm, and then 5pm to 8pm. It is closed to visitors between 2pm and 5pm.

Visitors are also limited to a maximum of four persons, which is practised at some hospitals.

Why are the hours at SGH shorter and visitors are not allowed to see their loved ones during those three hours in the day? The break is also implemented at Ng Teng Fong Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

However, the visiting hours of Tan Tock Seng Hospital and National University Hospital are from noon to 8pm with no breaks in between.

How do these hospitals decide on the timings? SGH and other hospitals with shorter hours should review their timings to improve visitor service.
