Alvin Tan on ensuring critical supply flows amid global shipping disruptions
The Government is closely attuned and acting on the implications downstream amid the global shipping disruptions, said Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan. Replying to Parliamentary questions on Tuesday (Feb 6), he said there have been minimal disruptions to Singapore’s critical supplies, including food. The proportion of goods shipped from Europe by sea is small compared with Singapore's total global imports. The majority of Singapore’s critical goods is either flown in from Europe or does not pass through the Red Sea. He also said Government agencies have many tools to act against disruptions. Mr Tan said the Government will continue to monitor developments in food prices and will take the necessary measures if needed.
