Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 1: Edward Chia on economic costs of bureaucracy
In parliament on Friday (Feb 28), MP Edward Chia urged the Ministry of Finance to facilitate greater participation by SMEs and start-ups in government tenders. He said they are often disadvantaged by red tape, which can lead to the public sector missing out on promising innovations. Complex regulations and high compliance costs also often prevent SMEs from scaling up their operations effectively, he said. Mr Chia called on the government to improve efficiency and ensure that businesses can operate with more agility.
