Janil Puthucheary on vigilance against HMPV infections
Singapore saw an increase in human metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases during the year-end period, similar to previous years. This has started to subside. There is no vaccine for HMPV and the influenza vaccine does not provide protection against HMPV infection. The public, especially young children, the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions, should take preventive measures such as practising good personal hygiene, limiting social context when sick and seeing a doctor promptly if the symptoms worsen. Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary said this in reply to MPs' questions in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 5).
