Sharael Taha on advancing mental health

08:14 Min

It is important to increase awareness of mental health conditions to aid recognition, management and prevention in the community and strengthen informal support networks. This will particularly help seniors living alone and those who are seniors themselves but caring for even more elderly parents. MP Sharael Taha said this in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 6). He also spoke about improving mental health and well-being in the workplace. He said companies can put in place policies to prevent discrimination against those with mental health conditions but translating those strategies into practice can pose significant challenges. He said employers, employees and the people leaders must be equipped with the right skillset to drive a change in approach, but whether this should be a guideline or mandated remains up for discussion and a work in progress.
