With the advancement of technology, it is useful for the Government to consider initiatives such as allowing certain oaths to be taken through live video or TV link instead of in person, said MP Yip Hon Weng. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Aug 2), he supported the “positive step” towards leveraging technology for public service delivery. He stressed the need to be mindful of the potential challenges and risks involved, given the increasing sophistication of fake artificial intelligence technology. He wanted to know how the Government will prevent deepfakes or impersonations from compromising the integrity and validity of the oaths. He also wanted to know how the Government will plan for contingencies such as a power failure and network disruption.
