CNA938 Rewind - A Letter to Myself: How Theophilus Kwek's poetry makes space for different voices to be heard

Theophilus Kwek is an accomplished young poet whose fifth and latest collection of poetry is entitled "Commonwealth", which is a literary homecoming of sorts.  A key theme in Theophilus' work is the tension between place and displacement. In this conversation, he tells us why this theme has deeply personal roots in the old neighbourhood in which he grew up (Commonwealth, of course), and how his maturing as a writer has helped him understand the value of making space in his poetry for voices other than his own. Among his achievements, Theophilus been featured on a Forbes' 30-Under-30 list, and is the youngest and only Singaporean recipient of the prestigious Cikada poetry prize.

In ‘Made in SG’ Melanie Oliveiro speaks to the founders of pottery studio Common Touch: ceramic artists Fyon Cheong and Zestro Leow. In ‘Culture Club’ Melanie Oliveiro speaks to the organisers behind 28 Frames, a curated exhibition of 28 artworks by local artists installed throughout two heritage shophouses turned co-working spaces at Keong Saik and Ann Siang Road. A collaboration between art consultancy and gallery Fiidaa Art and co-working space brand The Working Capitol, the 28 selected artworks are strategically exhibited in everyday communal spaces - like stairwells, co-working rooms and lounges. One of the artists Charles Wong will talk about his works which feature dotted calligraphic forms in multiple languages and why each dot carries a symbolic weight.

Local authorities are open to ideas that can improve the commute between Singapore and Johor, but have no plans to fully liberalise cross-border ride-hailing services. However, it is considering the use of ride-hailing apps to book cross-border trips on licensed taxis and increasing the number of boarding and alighting points in the two countries. Property tycoon Ong Beng Seng pleaded guilty on Monday (Aug 4) to abetting former Transport Minister S Iswaran in obstructing the course of justice. CNA938 Rewind - Hong Kong IPO boom: How sustainable is the frenzy?

Hong Kong is on track to be the world’s top IPO venue this year. In the first half of 2025, some 44 companies went public in Hong Kong, a 47% jump from the same period last year. IPO proceeds increased sevenfold to HK$107.1 billion, catapulting HKEX to the top of global exchanges for the first half.
